Lack of doors, windows or light: problem fixed at École primaire Espoir thanks to citizen monitoring
At École primaire Espoir (Kadutu, Bukavu, Sud-Kivu), the Integrity Club reported on EduCheck: lack of doors, windows or light. Within 115 days and through « Funding from an external partner », the school fixed the problem.
École primaire Espoir welcomes its pupils every day in Kadutu (Sud-Kivu). Like other schools followed by EduCheck, it has an Integrity Club: student monitors trained by the Anti-Corruption Research Centre (CERC) to observe their school with a shared questionnaire, report problems on EduCheck and talk with those in charge until they are solved.
The problem
On 12 January 2026, the Integrity Club reported the following problem at École primaire Espoir: lack of doors, windows or light.
Classrooms that are too small, dark or run-down keep pupils from learning in good conditions.
The problem was published on the school’s page and sent to the school management.
The dialogue
The monitors opened a dialogue with the school management:
- Funding from an external partner
The result
The fix was recorded on 7 May 2026, 115 days after the report.
The monitors will check the fix during their next visit; the problem will then move to « Verified ».
This success shows what citizen monitoring makes possible: a problem made visible, a dialogue with the right people and a verified solution, for the benefit of pupils.
Your school can change too
Students, parents and teachers trained by CERC monitor their school and talk with those in charge until problems are fixed.
